I rate myself as a 2 when it comes to copyright issues before this lesson. After viewing the Fair Use Policy at NCAT, I rate it at a 4. I feel that the University did a good job at explaining their policies well. However, I feel that their guidelines can go a little more in depth for students who may have disabilities or have conflict understanding the language and its meanings. They do provide adequate direction in their Fair Use Policy to maintain what is necessary. Three key facts and guidelines I find most useful are as follows.
1. Fair Use is a principle within copyright law that allows the limited use, for limited purposes, of copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder.
2. In determining fair use, four factors are considered:
Purpose: the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
Nature: the nature of the copyrighted work
Amount: the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
Effect: the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
3. Fair Use is analyzed on a case-by-case basis. Fair use is extremely important to educators, but not all fair use cases are educational in nature and not all educational uses will be fair. To determine if your intended use of a work is fair, you must balance the use based on the four factors above. If your responses weigh in favor of fair use, then you may use the material without obtaining permission from the copyright holder. If your responses weigh against fair use, then you are best advised to obtain permission for the use. I feel that the definition of the Fair Use Policy should be first understood and known before anything. The meaning must be explained and understood before all factors can be considered for educators as well as the students to ensure they are following and abiding by the guidelines. Secondly, I feel the four factors to be considered must be known and understood as well. This will ensure students know how their works and referencing should be. So many individuals violate the rules and procedures of the Fair Use Policy due to their lack of understanding and knowing the meaning and the principles involved.
The remarkable innovation of computer technology has brought about a fundamental revolution in every facet of life. This source has shifted life to being digital. It has enhanced the way of communication and influenced the exchange of information worldwide. At the click of a mouse, medical aid is given, rockets are launched, and communication is instantly enabled. Computers are defined as an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program. Each individual who utilizes a computer has evolved in some way.
Due to being a student, teaching and learning has progressed from the manual techniques of learning to the computerized versions. Computers has aided education to become differentiated and culturally responsive not only for me, but all students. It’s revolution has remodeled the traditional methods of academics to ensure all individual needs of learners are met and maintained appropriately. Computers permit me to be able to research any concept, analyze data, and produce creative responses when needed. The technology of computers allows for bigger audiences and authorize deeper understandings of various ideas or theories. As this form of technology progresses, educational systems grow as well.
Computers have provided massive advantages to businesses and how they are conducted daily. As a student, I have been a server/bartender professional for over ten years in a variety of restaurants which all are ran from computer technology. The business world utilizes computers for organization, self sufficiency, reducing costs, increasing the speeds of transactions and managing sales which warrant employment worldwide. Having employment is a necessity for daily living.
In the medical industry emerging technologies and computer developments aid as life savers for many. Being an individual with a health disability, known as epilepsy, computer advancements has helped with lowering seizures and recognizing what portions of the brain are causing the seizures. Computers keep records and databases of all medical records of multiple patients. They allow numerous medical physicians to discover and research diseases and their cures. Without computer technology much more lives would be loss daily.
The inventions of the computer and their technological developments that have been made to intensify their capabilities has been of great significance to human beings and all the processes or activities we engage in. Computer technology is so much a part of our lives, that I cannot imagine living without it. There are countless ways computer technology affects our lives and the list is ongoing along with the enhancements. The very fact that I am able to type this and others are able to read the blog exhibit how we are all affected by computers. Ranging from entertainment to food production to education and life-saving issues it is hard to find activities that does not have a need for the use of computers. The operations of computers will continue to be embraced and welcomed by generations to come.
Technology has always been a leading force in human education. The evolution of technology has exhibited the maturation and complexity of life as a whole worldwide. From the days of individuals carving visuals on walls or structures to the 21st century, where students are fully equipped with portable technological devices continuously heightens the level of educational capabilities, educational methods, educational resources, and educational engagement. Technology is growing more and more every day and has become more evident in today's society than ever. Without the utilization of technology resources I feel that life would be on a lower scale. Technology is necessary for all aspects and elements. With the evolution of technology, educational capabilities are expanding and changing daily. The Internet is an extensive electronic library of research and instruction which can be accomplished in a click of the mouse. As technology progresses, an educator's abilities can and will leap over numerous barriers they are presented with while carrying their students along with them. Without the knowledge technology provides, the instructor and pupils will be left behind.
